What's in the box: When it ran, a typical case contained printed evidence such as statements, letters, reports and photographs for solving a murder mystery.

The Detective Society does not appear to be operating any more. Its website no longer loads and there is no sign of recent activity, so we do not recommend trying to subscribe or paying for anything under this name. When it was running, it was a UK murder mystery subscription that posted new cases to players' homes, typically on a regular schedule. Each case came as a bundle of paper documents, such as witness statements, letters, reports and photographs. Your job was to read through them, spot contradictions and work out who was responsible. The cases were made to be played at home, either alone or with a partner, friends or family. Many players treated them as a relaxed evening activity rather than a race against the clock. A big part of the appeal was handling documents that looked like real case files instead of reading a story on a screen. No closure notice was published, so it is unclear whether secondhand cases are complete or whether any online parts still work. If you already own old cases, you may still be able to play them using the paper materials. If you want a mystery game now, choose a service that is clearly open, still takes orders and answers customer questions.
