Splosh

What's in the box: Refill pouches of household cleaning or personal care products such as washing up liquid, kitchen cleaner or laundry powder, to top up the reusable Splosh bottles.

Splosh is a Welsh company that sells household cleaning and personal care products in a refill system. You start with full bottles, which have printed designs and are built to last for years. After that you order concentrated refills in pouches. When you've used the pouches, you post them back to Splosh, and they reuse them or upcycle them into new products. You can buy refills when you need them or set up a subscription so they arrive on a schedule. The range covers washing up liquid, kitchen cleaner, laundry powder in tins and starter packs, and there is also a probiotic line. Splosh says its products are vegan-friendly, septic tank safe and never tested on animals, and that it makes them as natural as it can. It sells direct from its base in Wales and also lists stockists. The site advertises free delivery on all products. If you don't like the products, you can ask for your money back within 14 days of buying. The main catch is the routine. You have to keep the bottles, mix or pour in the refills and remember to send the pouches back. Bestsellers are priced around £6.50 to £8.35, so check them against what you pay now. For UK households who want less plastic and don't mind a few extra steps, it's a sensible option.
