Mystery Tackle Box is one of the best known fishing subscriptions in the US. Each month it sends a box of baits and tackle picked for your target species and the time of year. There are three tiers. Regular costs $19.99 for 4 to 6 items, Pro costs $31.99 for 6 to 8 items, and Elite costs $44.99 for 8 to 10 items. The listed retail value runs from $25 to $60 depending on the tier. Species choices include Bass, Panfish and Trout, Inshore Salt, Walleye, and Multi-Species, though not every tier offers every option. You can switch species at any time. Gift plans of 3, 6 or 12 months are also available. Beyond the tackle, the service includes limited edition decals, how-to videos, and monthly competitions. The main appeal is trying new lures and brands you might not pick up yourself. The main drawback is the usual one for mystery boxes: you cannot choose the items, and regular subscribers may end up with more tackle than they use. Ownership has also changed. Gordon Brothers acquired substantially all assets of parent company Catch Co. in March 2024. The subscription is still running, but buyers may want to keep an eye on service consistency.
