Ownership. Locavore CIC entered administration on 30 January 2024; just before that, its veg box business and brand were bought by The Chard Holding Group CIC.
What's in the box: Seasonal organic vegetables such as carrots, onions, potatoes, turnips, kale and purple sprouting broccoli, with optional fruit and grocery extras.
Locavore is a Glasgow social enterprise that sells organic veg boxes. It also runs two shops, in Govanhill and Partick, and offers catering. Its own electric vans deliver the boxes on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. Your delivery day depends on where you live, and you are told which day it is shortly after signing up. The delivery area covers much of the central belt, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Ayr, Paisley, Greenock, Falkirk, Livingston and many towns in between. The Standard box is listed at £15.25 and the Large at £21.50. A medium fruit selection costs £10.10. You can add extras such as Mossgiel milk, and you can pause deliveries when you need to. Box contents follow the Scottish seasons: carrots, onions, potatoes, baby turnips, purple sprouting broccoli, kale and fennel. Expect plenty of roots and greens rather than a wide range of imported produce. Shoppers should also know about the ownership change. The original Locavore CIC entered administration on 30 January 2024. Shortly before that, The Chard Holding Group CIC bought its veg box business and brand and now runs the service. Deliveries carry on, but it is worth watching how things settle under the new owner. The site does not clearly state minimum terms or cancellation rules. If you live inside the delivery area and want organic, low food mile produce from a business with a social mission, it is a sensible choice.
