What's in the box: When it operated, each box held age-matched children's books featuring diverse girls and women, usually with a simple related activity.

Little Feminist is no longer operating. Its website does not load, so you cannot order or manage a subscription. When it was running, it was a book club for children built around books with strong, diverse female characters. Families picked an age range and received books chosen to show girls and women from many backgrounds as leaders, scientists, artists and everyday heroes. Books often came with a simple activity to extend the story. The idea appealed to parents who wanted their child's bookshelf to reflect more than the usual mix of characters but did not have time to research titles themselves. The curation was the main draw, because someone else found inclusive books that were still fun to read aloud. Any curated book box has drawbacks, though. You may get titles you already own or would not have chosen, and a subscription can cost more than buying a few hand picked books yourself. Since the service has closed, do not try to sign up, and be careful with any old links or payment pages that still turn up online. If you liked the concept, a children's librarian or an independent bookstore can help you build a similar collection of inclusive stories. Other children's book subscriptions may also cover some of the same ground.
