Akibento

Closed. The website no longer loads. Akibento ended its monthly anime box in August 2022, citing higher costs and shipping delays.

What's in the box: When it operated, each box held a themed assortment of anime and manga inspired merchandise such as collectibles and accessories.

Akibento is not currently operating: its website no longer loads, and customer reviews stop around January 2018. There is no public closure notice, but nothing suggests the service is still shipping boxes, so you should not try to subscribe or send payment. When it was running, Akibento was a US based subscription box for anime and manga fans. Each shipment was built around a theme and mixed merchandise inspired by Japanese pop culture, such as small collectibles, accessories, and other fan goods, so subscribers got a surprise assortment rather than picking items themselves. The appeal was discovery: a fan could receive things they might not have found or bought on their own. As with most mystery boxes, how much you enjoyed it depended on whether the theme and items matched your favorite series. Some people loved the variety, while others ended up with pieces from shows they did not follow. Because the company appears to have stopped without a clear announcement, any old account, gift subscription, or unused credit is unlikely to be honored. If you want a similar experience today, look for an anime or manga box that is actively shipping, posts recent customer reviews, and clearly explains its billing and cancellation terms before you sign up.
