Sports Cards Direct

What's in the box: A box holds hobby packs you choose from the site's current stock, mostly recent Panini and Topps releases in your chosen sport.

Sports Cards Direct is a US subscription service that tries to bring the local card shop to your mailbox. Each month it sends hobby packs, and the company says it focuses on products from the current and previous year rather than the older retail or blaster packs it says other services rely on. The main draw is choice. Subscribers pick which packs go into their package from whatever is in stock, much like browsing a shop shelf. Basketball, football and soccer are the main categories, and wrestling is also listed. The lineup leans heavily on familiar Panini brands such as Prizm, Donruss, Optic and Select, along with newer Topps releases. You can also buy individual add-on packs, including some older hobby releases, and the site has a graded cards section. The site does not clearly explain subscription tiers, how many packs a package holds, or how pausing and cancelling work, so read the FAQ before you sign up. Stock changes and some packs show as sold out, so your favorite product may not always be available. As with any sealed product, what you pull comes down to luck, so treat this as a hobby expense rather than an investment. For collectors without a nearby shop, it is a practical and flexible option.
