What's in the box: A typical box held a newly published book with handwritten margin notes from its author, plus a few small reading related extras.

Quarterly Literary Box is no longer operating, and its domain, quarterly.co, now leads to a domain sale page instead of a working store. Quarterly Co. ran curated subscription boxes in the US, and the literary box was one of its best known products. Each box shipped once a season. It was built around a newly published book that its author had annotated by hand, with notes in the margins about the writing and the ideas behind it. A few small reading related extras usually came with the book. The idea appealed to readers who wanted a closer look at how a writer thinks about their own work. Boxes were still shipping in spring 2017. Customers began posting complaints in late 2017 and early 2018, and we could not find any formal closure notice from the company. When we checked the site, it showed only a security verification screen from atom.com, a domain marketplace. There were no product pages, no account access and no support contact. The service has stopped, and the site offers no way to manage or cancel old subscriptions, so we do not recommend signing up for or paying through anything that uses this name. Readers who want something similar should look at book subscriptions that are active now and respond to their customers.
