What's in the box: When it operated, each shipment was a rented LEGO or similar building set that the member built and then mailed back.
Pley is no longer operating: its LEGO rental subscription shut down in late 2018, and customer service had ended by November 2018. When it ran, Pley was a US service that let families rent LEGO and similar building sets by mail instead of buying them. Members received a set, built it, and sent it back when they were finished, then moved on to the next set from their list. The appeal was variety. Kids could try many sets without parents paying full retail for each one or storing a growing pile of bricks. The trade off was that sets did not stay in the home, and with shared sets there was always some risk of missing pieces. Today the pley.com address shows a completely different business. The current site describes Pley as a game distribution platform that helps studios bring mobile games to web browsers, run by Pley AB, a Swedish company. It does not offer toys, building sets, or any kind of subscription box for children, and it should not be confused with the former rental service. There is no way to join or resume the original Pley service, so anyone looking for a building or STEM box today will need to look elsewhere.
