What's in the box: When it was running, a typical crate held an assortment of Japanese snacks, candy and drinks, many of them limited edition or seasonal items.
Japan Crate has closed and no longer sells subscriptions, so there is nothing to sign up for. The company launched in 2014 and spent about ten years shipping monthly boxes of Japanese snacks and candy to subscribers, mostly in the US. Each crate focused on limited edition and hard to find treats, such as novelty sweets, chips, gummies and drinks that rarely show up on American grocery shelves. The brand also ran a sister box, Doki Doki Crate, for fans of cute character goods and stationery. Bokksu acquired Japan Crate in 2023, and the service has since been wound down so the company can focus on its other brands. The site now shows a farewell message thanking subscribers and pointing them to two related shops. Bokksu sells a subscription box of Japanese snacks sourced from long established family makers and presents it as a more premium option. Sugoi Mart sells anime, manga, gaming and pop culture goods with no monthly subscription. Former subscribers with questions about their accounts can contact the company or read the FAQ on the site. Japan Crate itself will not ship anything new, so anyone who wants a similar box today will have to look at other services.
