Ownership. Modular Robotics acquired Dexter Industries, maker of the GoBox robot subscription, in July 2019.

What's in the box: Each month brings a new robotics mission that builds on the GoBox starter robot, with step-by-step projects to follow.

GoBox is a robotics subscription from Dexter Industries, which Modular Robotics now owns. You buy a starter robot for $179.99, then pay $15.99 a month for a new mission each month. The missions teach building and programming one step at a time. Dexter also sells other kits you can move on to later. GoPiGo is a robot car you build and program yourself, BrickPi lets you program LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT/EV3 robots in Python, and GrovePi is for building smart devices. The kits are open source and need no soldering. The company suggests ages 8 and up with an adult, or 12 and up for building alone. Teachers get extra help through the DexterEd program and a free Teacher Trial. Be careful before you sign up, though. The newest blog posts on the site are from 2020, which suggests the product line is not being updated much, so check that the subscription still ships before you pay. The site also has a recall notice for Dexter Industries Rechargeable Battery Packs sold between March 2018 and February 2020. If you own one, stop using it and contact Modular Robotics for a free replacement. The site does not explain how to cancel or what each monthly mission contains.
