What's in the box: When it operated, each Chef'd kit contained pre-portioned ingredients for a specific dish along with a step-by-step recipe card.

Chef'd is no longer operating. The company shut down abruptly on July 16, 2018, after its funding fell through, and it has not shipped meal kits since. When it ran, Chef'd was a US meal kit service with a large menu of recipes, many created with chefs, food brands and publications. Most rivals required a subscription, but Chef'd let customers order individual kits without signing up for recurring deliveries. Each kit came with pre-portioned ingredients and a step-by-step recipe, so home cooks could make a restaurant-style dinner without buying every component themselves. The closure came with little warning for customers. Today the chefd.com address hosts a free recipe website called ChefD. You type in the ingredients you already have, and it suggests dishes ranked by how few extra items you would need. It covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and desserts, and it has a serving scaler. It does not appear to be connected to the original company, and it does not sell or deliver boxes. If you want a meal kit, choose a service that is still running. If you only want ideas for using up what is in your fridge, the recipe site may help, but treat it as a separate product from the old meal kit business.
