What's in the box: A box you put together yourself from Buchi's fermented drinks, such as Wild Pop sodas in flavors like Cola and Root Beer Float, and Pineapple Mango or Pineapple Spice tepache.
Buchi is a fermentation brand based in Marshall, North Carolina, and says it has been making functional drinks for more than 16 years. Its current lineup has two product lines. Wild Pop is a soda alternative made with organic ingredients, with 5 grams of sugar compared with 39 in a typical soda, plus 9 grams of plant fiber. Flavors include Grape, Cola, Strawberry Cream, Cream Soda, Root Beer Float and Lemon Lime Fizz. Tepache is a fermented pineapple drink made with tibicos water, offered in Pineapple Mango and Pineapple Spice. The brand is known for kombucha, but its kombucha flavors now appear mostly in its innovation archive, not the current lineup. If you want a build-your-own box, be aware that the site puts most of its focus on a store locator. It does not clearly explain how a custom box works, how often it ships or what it costs, so contact support before you order. On the plus side, Buchi uses certified organic Fair Trade sugar and tea, supports One Tree Planted, and buys from a sugar supplier it describes as carbon neutral. A mixed box makes sense if you already like the brand and want a steady supply. If you want a kombucha subscription with clear terms, look elsewhere.
