Ownership. Acquired by Just Wines in July 2024; its beer subscription is still running.
What's in the box: A monthly pack of 6, 8 or 12 craft beers chosen around a theme such as general craft, dark beers, IPAs or limited releases.
Beer Cartel calls itself Australia's largest online craft beer store. Its subscriptions sit alongside a large range of mixed packs, glassware and gifts. Each subscription has a clear theme. The Bootlegger is a monthly 6 pack at $39.99 and The Speak Easy is a monthly 12 pack at $74.99. The Night Watch is a dark beer 8 pack at $79.99, The Hop Head is an IPA 8 pack at $84.99, and The Black Market is a limited edition 12 pack at $89.99. With that spread you can choose by style or by volume instead of taking one generic mixed box. The store stocks Australian craft labels such as Moon Dog, Capital, Nomad and Wayward next to Belgian Trappist beers and German staples, so the buyers have a deep range to fill boxes from. Just Wines bought the business in July 2024, and the beer subscription has kept running under the new owner. It is too early to tell whether the change will affect curation over time, so it is worth watching. When we checked, the site showed a small untranslated text placeholder, a minor sign of slipping polish. The entry 6 pack works out to under $7 a beer, which is close to buying craft cans one at a time. The appeal is curation and discovery rather than savings.
